Kenneth Barbee
Ken Barbee has been competing at an elite level in sports since childhood.
His junior high school?s funding crisis led to the loss of J.V. baseball and
brought Ken to track and field. Success for Ken was immediate and Ken excelled at
all track distances up to a mile. He made All-City and All-State and was an All-American
miler in college. A 1986 University of Tennessee graduate, Ken still holds the school record
for the mile at 4:00.19. Ken is a professor of Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University, where
he teaches how engineering principles apply to biological entities (like human bodies) and occasionally
converts one-sport student-athletes to triathletes. Ken has passed his running genes on
to his son Harper, who is the fastest kid in preschool and likes to ?run fast?.
